Develop a computer simulation model of the heating and cooling system for an existing pilot plant reactor in a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
PROCESS MODELING OF PHARMACEUTICAL PILOT PLANT REACTOR SYSTEM
The client, a pharmaceutical production company, contracted Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) to complete a computer process simulation of the heating and cooling capabilities of a pilot plant reactor system. The client wanted a model completed for their process that could be used to help them optimize the heating and cooling system on a 200 gallon glass reactor, which uses a steam heat exchanger and ethylene glycol for the heating and cooling medium. The tasks involved in this project were as follows:
- Set up a model of the reactor with the heating and cooling loop and model each scenario (four total scenarios) used in the plant utilizing PROCESS' commercial computer process simulation software (CHEMCAD).
- Complete a Visual Basic Applications (VBA) program to make the steady-state CHEMCAD software predict unsteady state conditions.
Each simulation and VBA program was delivered to the client to be used to help with control and optimization of their heating and cooling loop.
