Project Summary

NAPHTHA HYDROTREATER PROCESS SIMULATION UPDATE AND RELIEF VALVE SIZING

The client, an independent oil refinery, contracted Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) to provide process simulation updates and to complete relief valve sizing calculations for an existing Naphtha Hydrotreater Unit.  These calculations were completed to support increased throughput in the unit in addition to downstream modifications affecting the system.

PROCESS completed the following tasks in support of this effort:

  • The client’s existing process simulation model was updated for the proposed operating conditions using HYSYS simulation software

  • Using the updated simulation results, 21 existing relief valves were evaluated at the new conditions and fully documented calculation results were supplied to the client

  • Recommendations regarding the replacement of undersized valves and modification of inlet/outlet relief device piping were summarized and reported to the client.
