Y-12 NUCLEAR SECURITY COMPLEX

PROCESS’ engineers have served in both lead and support roles in projects associated with the process design, operation, and safety basis development and implementation for nuclear, non-nuclear, and waste facilities at the Y-12 Nuclear Complex in Oak Ridge, TN.  Performance of these roles encompassed processes containing both hazardous chemicals as well as highly enriched uranium compounds.  Many of these processes were housed in contamination control zones and/or enclosed in containment enclosures (e.g., glove boxes) intended to protect both the workers and people offsite from the hazards of the operations. The work was performed under stringent requirements for Conduct of Operations (including configuration management of existing processes) and project change control, with close interaction with both the DOE/NNSA and DNFSB oversight personnel.

OAK RIDGE NATIONAL LABORATORY

PROCESS’ engineers have served in key support roles in projects associated with the design, commissioning, and operational support for nuclear, non-nuclear, and waste treatment facilities at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN.  These roles encompassed design activities including alternative analyses, flowsheet development, detailed process calculations, recommended control philosophies, and computer modeling and simulation.  Operational startup support included development of test plans, normal and abnormal operating procedures, and evaluation of potential accident scenarios. The work was performed with close interaction with both the DOE and contractor personnel.  PROCESS’ engineers have also provided independent process design evaluations of planned nuclear facility remediation activities.

SAVANNAH RIVER SITE

PROCESS’ engineers have served in numerous technical support roles in projects associated with the head-end design and safety basis support for nuclear facilities at the Savannah River site in Aiken, SC. A variety of radioactive compounds with varying activity levels have been addressed in these projects, which range from fuel reprocessing to tritium production to depleted UF6 downblending activities. Technical support tasks have included the reconstruction of the design basis documentation of glovebox containment enclosures, the preparation of process design descriptions supporting PEIS development, and support for the closure of tanks containing hazardous radioactive wastes.

HANFORD SITE

PROCESS’ engineers have served in key roles in projects associated with updates to the analysis of mission, functions and requirements, and system specifications at the Hanford Site in Richland, WA. These projects involve the storage, treatment, and disposal of legacy waste from decades of radioactive mixed waste production in support of national security.

ATOMIC ENERGY CANADA, LLC

PROCESS’ engineers have served in support roles in projects associated with the design of several aspects of remotely operated nuclear systems at the Chalk River Nuclear Laboratory in Ontario, Canada. These projects addressed processes containing both hazardous chemicals as well as high activity radioactive solutions. These processes were enclosed in containment enclosures (e.g. shielded hot cells) intended to protect both the workers and people offsite from the hazards of the operations.

DOE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SITES

PROCESS’ engineers have served in both lead and support roles in projects associated with the design and operation support for various nuclear facilities managed by the DOE Environmental Management Program office. These projects have included the design of a groundwater treatment facility, the evaluation of proposed incoming waste streams for a thermal desorption process, the development of an operational computer model for a mixed waste incinerator, and a regulatory assessment of a low-level radioactive waste landfill leachate collection facility. The work was performed with close interaction with contractor personnel.

COMMERCIAL NUCLEAR PROJECTS AND SITES

PROCESS’ engineers have served in both lead and support roles in projects associated with the design, operation, and decommissioning support for other nuclear projects and facilities at various commercial locations within the U.S. These roles have included conceptual, preliminary, and detailed process design; integrated safety analysis support and implementation; design evaluation studies and environmental assessments; and detail design and hands-on field support of decommissioning activities.
