Project Synopsis

Size a relief device for a new rubber solution cooler at a rail car unloading station.

Project Summary

CHEMICAL PLANT RAIL CAR UNLOADING STATION RELIEF VALVE SIZING

Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was subcontracted by the client, an engineering and design firm, to size a relief valve for the ultimate client, a chemical manufacturing company, for a heat exchanger located at a rail car unloading station.  The heat exchanger is a rubber solution cooler that was being replaced in-kind.

PROCESS utilized its proprietary relief device sizing program, which includes calculations based on the guidelines in American Petroleum Institute (API) Recommended Practices (RP) 520 and 521, to determine the pressure relief requirements.

PROCESS supplied the client with the relief valve sizing calculations as well as datasheets that could be used to obtain quotes from vendors.  PROCESS also suggested specific relief devices represented in vendor literature.
