Project Synopsis
Determine appropriate inlet/outlet PSV pipe sizing and atmospheric discharge stack sizing for a relief header system on a nitrogen skid as part of a PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) process.Project Summary
The client requires a nitrogen skid as part of their PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) process. The relief requirements and pressure safety valve (PSV) sizes were calculated by the client in-house. The client desired that the PSV outlets join together in a stack before release to the atmosphere. Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was tasked with determining the appropriate sizing for the piping to and from these valves in addition to sizing the stack.
Specific tasks for this project included:
- Examination of proposed configuration and sizing for inlet and outlet piping and stack
- Calculation of pressure drop and back pressure in a pool fire scenario
- Evaluation of alternative configurations for piping that did not meet API requirements
- Preparation of a Summary Report where all recommendations were outlined.
In the execution of these tasks, PROCESS tapped into their in-depth knowledge of fluid dynamics and safety relief device regulations.
