Project Synopsis
Check the need for an additional relief valve in an ammonia process application.Project Summary
AMMONIA SERVICE RELIEF VALVE REQUIREMENT EVALUATION
Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was subcontracted by the client, an engineering and design firm, to review the need for a pressure relief valve (PRV) at the engineering company’s client, who used ammonia in a given process service. The ultimate client, who already had multiple existing relief valves in the process, did not want to purchase an additional relief valve if that relief valve was not required by code. The ultimate client had been advised previously that an additional relief valve was required.
PROCESS reviewed the sizing criteria for the prospective additional valve and determined that, for all credible relieving scenarios, the equipment was adequately protected by existing relief valves. PROCESS thus saved the ultimate client from having to purchase an unnecessary relief valve.
