Project Synopsis

Develop a preliminary process simulation model for a new modular Crude Distillation Unit.

Project Summary

The client, a modular design, fabrication, and construction company based in Canada, contracted Process Engineering International (PROCESS) to prepare a first pass, non-optimized simulation for a new Crude Distillation Unit (CDU).  The modular system will initially operate as a topping unit and will ultimately be installed in Kurdistan.  The simulation model was developed to provide a first-pass cost estimate for the design/build of the modular system.  The following products will be produced by the CDU:

  • LPG
  • Naphtha
  • No. 2 Oil
  • Atmospheric Residual.

PROCESS prepared the CDU simulation using HYSYS simulation software.  The simulation provided a basis for preliminary equipment sizing, initial configuration of the CDU, and an early prediction of product quantities and qualities.

A brief summary of the simulation model along with the raw data files for the HYSYS simulation were provided to the client.
