Project Synopsis

Provide an independent process engineering review of information related to a new high performance polymer production project.

Project Summary

PROCESS ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR A HIGH PERFORMANCE POLYMER PROJECT

Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was subcontracted by the client, a provider of detailed engineering services, to provide process engineering services for the ultimate client, a chemical production company, for their High Performance Polymer Project.  More specifically, PROCESS was asked to review Issued for Design (IFD) Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) generated by another engineering firm as well as to review vendor proposals for two key pieces of equipment.  As part of this project, the following tasks were accomplished:

  • Reviewed and issued comments on the IFD P&IDs for the project
  • Reviewed and commented on vendor proposals for a sulfur dioxide scrubber and a catalytic oxidation unit to be used for volatile organic compound (VOC) abatement.

PROCESS utilized its licensed commercial process simulation software to simulate the performance of the scrubber and catalytic oxidation unit.

PROCESS supplied the client with copies of the reviewed P&IDs and also updated recommendations for the scrubber and catalytic oxidation unit which were given to the ultimate client at the end of a previous project completed by PROCESS. In the end, the ultimate client decided to move forward with their project and chose to use PROCESS in a subcontract role to perform detailed process engineering design for the project.
