Project Synopsis

Provide a process simulation and determine the optimum column operating conditions for a hydrotreated vacuum oil stripper at a petroleum refinery.

Project Summary

HYDROTREATED OIL STRIPPER PROCESS SIMULATION AND OPERATIONAL OPTIMIZATION

The client, a specialty petroleum refiner, contracted Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) to execute a simulation study of a hydrotreated vacuum oil stripper.  Specifically, PROCESS simulated the tower and ancillary systems using its licensed commercial computer process simulation software for the purposes of characterizing the column and optimizing operation.  First, using plant operating data as well as extensive feed and products analytical analyses, PROCESS constructed a model that characterized current operation, including column hydraulics.  PROCESS then ran sensitivity analyses to determine the optimum operating conditions for the entire system for achieving the best separation given the physical constraints of the system.
