Project Synopsis

Perform a PHA for a uranium oxide production process.

Project Summary

PROCESS HAZARDS ANALYSIS (PHA) OF A URANIUM OXIDATION PROCESS

The client operates a metal processing facility that produces a waste stream of depleted uranium, which is then oxidized.  Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) provided engineers experienced in process safety and risk management who were part of a PHA team for the client.  The team performed a PHA of the uranium oxidation process using the What-If methodology.  The objective of the PHA was to discover potential accidents (i.e., radiological material releases, explosions, fires, etc.) that could directly impact employees, the public, and/or the environment.  Process documented the PHA to reasonably fulfill all pertinent regulatory requirements.
