Project Synopsis
Review a refinery's existing fuel gas system for adequacy in complying with new EPA reporting regulations.Project Summary
REFINERY FUEL GAS SYSTEM REVIEW / INSTRUMENTATION SPECIFICATION
Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was contacted by the client, an independent petroleum refiner, to perform an on-site review of the refinery fuel gas system which consists of both purchased natural gas and refinery fuel gas. The goal of the review was to summarize existing instrumentation and to identify instrumentation needs so that the refinery could perform a mass balance on the fuel gas system. Information about the fuel system was needed to help meet the EPA’s Reporting of Greenhouse Gases Rule.
PROCESS personnel obtained the necessary information from the refinery files and performed a walk down of the fuel gas system. A list of flow devices and associated equipment was generated and a sketch of the fuel gas users, generators, and flow measurement devices was developed. Where required, additional flow devices were specified by PROCESS.
