SPECIALTY METAL PRODUCTION FACILITY PRELIMINARY PROCESS DESIGN

The client owns and operates a batch specialty metal manufacturing facility which produces a specialty metal used primarily in electronics devices.  Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was contracted to design a new process that would produce the major intermediate chemical for the existing facility from processed ore.  The major steps in this process are dissolution of the processed ore, reaction, crystallization, and drying.

Major project tasks included preparing:

  • Batch system mass and energy balances
  • Process flow diagrams (PFDs)
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Equipment sizing calculations.

In addition, PROCESS reviewed the final equipment arrangement drawings (prepared by a detail engineering firm) for consistency with the process design.
