Project Synopsis

Evaluate and recommend modifications to reboiler heat exchangers associated with the refinery’s stabilization and splitter distillation columns.

Project Summary

PROCESS ENGINEERING SUPPORT FOR REFINERY HEAT EXCHANGER MODIFICATION AND/OR REPLACEMENT

Process Engineering Associates, LLC (PROCESS) was contracted by the client, an independent petroleum refiner, to evaluate and recommend modifications to the existing hairpin longitudinal fintube exchanger reboilers associated with the refinery’s stabilization and splitter distillation columns.  The purpose of this evaluation was to recommend modifications or replacement options for the existing reboilers.

PROCESS performed the following tasks in support of this effort:

  • Based on information provided by the client, PROCESS developed process simulation models of both distillation columns to obtain a mass and energy balance around the columns.
  • Utilized process simulation and heat exchanger design software to rate both reboilers and to produce equipment specifications sheets which were issued to the client that detailed reboiler modification and/or replacement recommendations.

Industry Type

  • Petroleum Refining

Utilized Skills

  • Reboiler evaluation
  • Heat transfer improvements
